Accra Hearts of Oak on Sunday beat its Moroccan rival, Wydad Athletic Club in the CAF champions’ league preliminary round at the Accra Sports Stadium in Ghana.
A lone goal from Isaac Mensah in the 42nd minute of the first half secured the Phobians the three points. Hearts of Oak will to travel to Morocco for the second league with an advantage over their counterpart.
Hearts of Oak coach was shown a yellow card during the match when he engaged in a struggle with Yahia Attiyat Allah, a player of the Wydad Athletic Club.
Coach Samuel Boadu admitted that he needs to work extra hard on his team to enable them win the return encounter in Casablanca.
If Hearts of Oak pulls through in Casablanca, it will be the first in nine years since a Ghanaian club made it beyond the group stage of the elite CAF competition.
Meanwhile, Wydad club which has qualified to the semifinals over the past three seasons hope to have its head coach back on bench after missing out of today’s match due to Covid related issues.
