Nigeria’s Transport Minister has resigned from his cabinet position as the country’s transport minister.
Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi vacated his ministerial post to pursue his interest in a presidential ambition.
The Former Rivers State Governor and Minister for Transportation’s resignation follows the president’s directive to all his ministers of government.
President Buhari has directed all cabinet ministers and appointees in his government with interest in the 2023 presidential election race to vacate position by 16th of May.
Mohammadu Buhari issued the directive on Wednesday May 4th, 2022, at the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja.
Neither the transport minister himself nor his communication bureau has officially communicated to the public regarding the transportation minister’s decision.

The former River State Governor however confirmed his resignation on the All-Progressive Congress United Kingdom Twitter handle.
“Nigeria’s Minister of #Transportation, HM Chibuike R. Amaechi [@ChibuikeAmaechi] has resigned from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to focus on his Presidential Campaign. Thank you for your service to Nigeria”, the tweet read.
Three other government officials and state appointees have earlier vacated their post following President Buhari’s directive.
They include Education Minister, Emeka Nwajiuba; Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister for Science and Technology and Godswill Akpabio, Niger Delta governor.
A number of ministers in the Buhari led government have shown interests to contest for the oil rich nation’s presidential seat.
