Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that both Kenya and Zimbabwe will not participate in the upcoming 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers scheduled to start in June despite their earlier inclusion in the official draw of the tournament.
According to a statement from the Confederation of African Football, the two associations; Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) will be considered losers and eliminated from the competition.
The statement further indicated that “as a consequence of having failed to have their suspensions by FIFA set aside, CAF has confirmed that both Kenya and Zimbabwe will not participate in the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023 qualifiers’’.
The two countries were banned by the world football governing body, FIFA for government interference, in January.

Kenya’s Federation was handed over to a caretaker committee by the government of Kenya following alleged misappropriation of funds, whiles Zimbabwe’s FA was suspended by the government for ‘’ several incidents of gross incompetence’’.
The statement further said, the groups (C and K) in which both countries; Kenya and Zimbabwe were drawn for the qualification will be composed of three teams and the order of the matches will be maintained by the match schedule.
