Ghana’s Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has hinted of plans to ban all tobacco products in the country soon.
Information indicate that the food and drug regulatory body in the West African nation is in the process of amending the country’s existing tobacco laws to facilitate the possible ban.
If the authorities succeed, tobacco trade in the country will soon become illegal or face strict regulation.
The current tobacco act of the country is being amended to restrict the importation and sale of all tobacco products.
News of the proposed ban was disclosed by the Greater Accra Regional Regulatory officer of the country’s (Ghana)FDA.

Mr Nii Nortey Nortey dropped the hint during an interview on the country’s state television GTV Breakfast Show today.
The regional regulatory officer said his outfit is making headway despite difficulty in banning the products outright.
“Banning tobacco products outright and immediately is quite difficult but the authority is making headway”, Nii Nortey Nortey stressed.
Meanwhile, an Internal Medicine Resident has drawn public attention on the use of shisha among the youth.
Dr Angela Dotse Tugbewofia of the Ghana Thoracic Society has advised authorities to check the trending shisha usage among the youth before banning tobacco.
