The group’s leader made the request following revelation that the immediate past Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party government will be representing four accomplices of the Chinese illegal mining kingpin, Aisha Huang in court.
Dr. Ken Ashigbey entertains fear that the state’s attorney general, Godfred Yeboah Dame might find it difficult to engage in a legal encounter with one of his party’s top-ranking members.
“We expect the Attorney-General to really up his game on Aisha Huang’s prosecution. Because he would be looked at as going against one of his former bosses,” Dr. Ken Ashigbey explained.
A private legal practitioner and daughter of the former NPP National Chairman, Lucy Ekeleba Blay, announced in court on Tuesday that she was holding the fort for Freddy Blay in the case of the four accomplices of Aisha Huang.
The four Chinese expatriates are facing prosecution along with their compatriot and ring
leader, Aisha Huang for engaging in illegal gold mining contrary to Ghana’s mining laws.
They are Gao Jin Cheng, Lu Qi Jun, Haibin Go and Zhang Zhipeng.
Dr Ashigbey has on this basis entreated the A-G to ensure justice is served in the case before the court.
The ‘galamsey’ queen and the four others are being held for their involvement in illegal mining.
Aisha Huang, described as ‘galamsey queen’ is being defended by Capt. (Rtd) Nkrabeah Effah-Dartey, another influential member of the ruling party and lawyer.
President Akufo-Addo and his NPP government have come under strong criticism as the very culprits behind the illegal Chinese mining syndicate.
