CEO of Mensah Mental Health Rehabilitation Project (MEMHREP) has observed that the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) agenda cannot be achieved unless global leaders made meaningful investment towards improved mental well-being for all.
Mr. Adu-Gyamfi Mensah made the observation in a statement issued by his NGO during this year’s Mental Health Day celebration yesterday in Kumasi.
He said the global theme for this year’s event, ‘Make Mental Health & Well-Being for All a Global Priority’ is timely considering the critical situation the world finds itself in.
The CEO pointed out that the reeling effects of the coronavirus pandemic, global climate related crises and the fragile world security have consequences on the mental well-being of the universal population.

Mr. Adu Gyamfi noted that the rates at which people are experiencing suicidal ideas including children globally is alarming.
He attributed the increased tendencies in mental illness and its associated impacts on individuals and the society to lack of global attention to the subject.
He said people with mental health challenges are still human beings who must be given the needed attention and respect.
CEO of MEMHREP regrets that despite the huge impact that poor mental illness has on global socio-economic development and well-being, the subject is not given the needed attention on the global stage.
He emphasized that none of the 17 SDGs can be achieved if the mental state of the individual is not improved.
Mr. Adu-Gyamfi was, however happy that mental illness can either be prevented or managed possible through awareness creation and other evidence-based interventions.
The CEO stressed on the need for all stakeholders to combine efforts in educating the society on preventive measure.
“We need to work with governments and other stakeholders to apply the universal preventive measures that reduce the risk of mental ill-health.
Governments and global leaders must develop new policies and strengthen existing frameworks that address stigma and discrimination against mental challenged patients,” emphasized the CEO.
“The 2022 World Mental Health Day theme provides we actors with the opportunity to re-kindle our efforts in making the world a better place. No community and no individual should be left behind. We are at cross-roads. It is imperative to take the correct path”.
Mr. Adu- Gyamfi Mensah on this note called on all to support efforts of the NGO in the provision of better mental health care and support within the NGO’s operation communities and the country.
