Over one thousand homes in the Ejisu Municipality have been provided with toilets under the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA) Sanitation project.
Chief Executive of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly, Hon. Sammuel Oduro Frimpong announcing the impactful sanitation development in the municipality said the stated number of dignified toilets were all constructed within a twelve-month period under the GAMA One House One Toilet initiative.
He emphasized that issues of sanitation and toilet in the Ejisu Municipality, Ashanti region and Ghana cannot be underestimated, stressing that cleanliness is indeed next to Godliness.
Hon. S. O. Frimpong announced the feat during his ‘Purpose of Gathering’ speech at the 2022 National World Toilet Day Celebration at Ejisu, in the Ashanti region.
The MCE described the One House One Toilet project as innovative and timely since it has significantly helped reduced open defecation in beneficiary communities in the municipality.
“I must admit that the introduction of the One House One Toilet has come at the most appropriate time.
Just within a period of twelve months over 1,000 toilets have been constructed in the Ejisu Municipality alone and 4,000 across 8 participating assemblies in the Grater Kumasi Area”, the MCE announced.
“Hon. Chairman, I must also indicate that this project has considerably helped reduced open defecation in our various communities”, he publicly acknowledged.
He expressed gratitude to the Sanitation and Water Resources Ministry and the sector minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah for extending the GAMA project to the Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Area (GKMA).
“I am grateful to the Ministry and the honorable Minster, Cecilia Abena Dapaah for extending this GAMA Sanitation and Water project to the Greater Kumasi of which Ejisu Municipality is a beneficiary and leading the construction of household toilets in the Ashanti region”, S. O. Frimpong said.
Hon. Sammuel Frimpong also commended leaders and members of the GAMA Sanitation team for their commitment to the health and sanitation needs of the project’s target areas.
Touching on the theme for the occasion, the MCE lauded organizers for choosing the most appropriate theme for this year’s World Toilet Day celebration.
He pointed that the theme for the event: ‘Sanitation and Ground Water’ resonates well with climate change, its impact on ground water and challenges in water supply in the country.
Eight MMDAs in the Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Area (GKMA) are benefiting from the GAMA Sanitation’s One House One Toilet project.
Over 4,000 toilets have so far been constructed in the eight participating assemblies in the region, including the Ejisu Municipality.
