The Ashanti regional Forest Services Division (FSD) Manager of the Forestry Commission (FC), Clement Amaoh Omari has assured the public of the Forestry Commission’s readiness to lead the 2023 edition of the national tree planting exercise dubbed, Green Ghana.
The regional manager gave the assurance in a post exercise engagement with a section of the media at the FC’s regional office in Kumasi yesterday.
Mr. Omari told journalists that all arrangements regarding the official take off of the national exercise scheduled on Friday 9th June have almost been completed.

He disclosed that the Forestry Commission has set a national target of 10 million tree seedlings to be planted under this year’s Green Ghana tree planting program across the country.
Mr. Amoh Omari noted that the Ashanti region, ceremonial host of this year’s event has targeted to plant about 2.1 million seedlings.
The regional manager said the commission has made tree seedlings available at various distribution points across the region for individuals and groups to pick for planting on Friday.
He announced that variety of both timber and non-timber seedlings have been deposited at various locations such as the Forest Commission depot, Forest Commission district offices in the region and notable Melcom shopping branches across the region.
The regional manager disclosed that the commission considered both timber and non-timber trees seedlings for planting in the various forest zones and public places.
Notable among timber species to be planted in this year’s exercise include Ofram, mahogany, emere, edinam among others.
The exercise also features some non-timber and fruits trees such as coconut, mangoes and variety of citrus.
He called on all Ghanaians to get involved in the exercise to ensure a sustainable green environment.
“We need to get ourselves involve and pick a seedling at any of our distribution points and take part in the exercise,” Mr Clement Omari encouraged the public.
With a national agenda of mobilizing for a greener future, the 2023 edition of the Green Ghana Day was launched on 17th May 2023 by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Great Hall- KNUST under the theme “Our Forests, Our Health”.
At the launching ceremony, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II announced a national target of 10 million tree seedlings to be planted nationwide under the 2023 Green Ghana Day event.
The Green Ghana initiative is part of efforts by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources (MLNR) and the Forestry Commission to inculcate Ghanaians the need to plant more trees in order to preserve and protect the country’s forest cover for a sustainable greener environment for the future generations.
