The member of parliament for the Suame constituency, Hon. Johm Darko Esq, yesterday paid a solidarity visit to the Suame magazine zone two and 21 fire victims respectively.
The MP was accompanied on the visit by the Presiding Member of the Suame Municipal assembly, constituency womens organizer and some executives of the New Patriotic Party from the constituency.
Hon. Darko and his entourage during the visit held a closed door meeting with leadership of the the Ashanti regional chapter of the Ghana National Association of Garages before proceeding to the fire scenes.
The meeting was for the MP to get first hand information of the situation and discuss with leadership of the garages association on way forward.
At the respective zones fire scenes, the MP and his entourage were greeted by ashes and residue from burnt vehicles, structures, machines and equipments as well as vehicle spare parts and auto mechnic materials.
Addressing the artisans and victims whose properties were affected by last Sunday night fire, the MP expressed shock at the level of damage caused by the fire.
He said he had to embark on the emergency despite his tight parliamentary duties considering the importance that his office attaches to the welfare of artisans and garage owners in the automobile industrial hub .
Hon. John Darko pointed out that the magnitude of the destruction and its financial losses needs national attention and support.
He said his office will laise with the government and the Ashanti Caucus in parliament in mobilizing resources to support victims.
The MP directed victims to take inventory of their losses and submit same to the leadership of the regional garages association for future support and assistance.
He also appealed to cooperate bodies and concerned institutions and individuals to support victims with construction materials for reconstruction of burnt structures.
The Suame-Tafo magazine light industrial site has witnessed two devastating fire out breaks in less than two weeks, both occurring in the night.
The recent fire occurred on last Sunday night destroying some 25 shops, about 40 vehicles and countless number of auto mechanic tools, equipments and materials.
