Mayor of Aarhus City (Denmark ) will pay a three day official visit to Ghana from tomorrow 1st – 3rd March 2022.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Danish Embassy in Accra last Friday.
The statement said the visit is to strengthen the inter- city collaboration between Aarhus City and the Tema Metropolitan Assembly in areas of water supply.
Officials of the Denmark Embassy in Ghana said the visit has become necessary in view of global water management challenges especially in Sub-Sahara Africa.
The Mayor will be accompanied by a delegation from Aarhus Municipality.
Other members of delegation will include, the utility Aarhus Vand, as well as representatives from the Danida Sustainable Infrastructure Finance.
Denmark Embassy in collaboration with the Danish Export Association will also receive delegation from seven Danish water companies.
These include Alumichem, AVK, cBrain and Grundfos.
Others are LE34, Ramboll and SUEZ Denmark.
According to the statement, leaders will explore business opportunities in Ghana’s water sector.
The delegations will also share market insights and network with key partners in the Ghanaian water supply industry.
Mayor Jacob Bunsgaard will assess progress of the Strategic Sector Cooperation partnership between his country, Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) and the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL).
The partnership which began in 2019 is to ensure adequate and sustainable water supply within the Tema Metropolitan Area.
Additionally, the project aims at reducing environmental pollution through improved wastewater collection and treatment.
The mayor will also sign a letter of intent with his Ghanaian counterparts.
Mayor of Tema and the Managing Director of the Ghana Water Company Limited, (GWCL) will sign on behalf of Ghana.
Endorsement of the letter will set the pace for the second phase of the Strategic Sector Cooperation beginning 2023 to 2025.
The Mayor will also visit the proposed Aveyime Water Project in the Ghanaian capital, Accra.
The project being financed by the Danida Sustainable Infrastructure Finance when realized will provide about 1.2 million citizens in the Eastern part of Accra with clean water.
Ghana currently faces challenges in the areas of water supply value chain due to a number of factors.
Management of the country’s water resources and systems hope to address the challenges by taping into the rich experience and technologies of Denmark.
Ghana has benefited greatly from Denmark collaboration in the country’s water sector through decades of development co-operations.
Aarhus City(Denmark) is a global hub for sustainable and innovative water technology solutions.
Authorities believe that through strategic Partnership, the two countries can create a world-class approach to improved water supply for citizens of Tema in particular and the Ghana as a whole.
