General Secretary of Ghana’s opposition party, the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nana Yaa Jantuah has revealed plans to give a befitting burial to the country’s first President Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah after years of his death.
Commemorating the 5Oth Anniversary of the late President in the country’s capital,Accra, the General Secretary argued that the former president did not receive a befitting burial to put the ‘’restless soul’’ of Dr Kwame Nkrumah to rest.
” It is on this promise that the Convention people’s Party and like-minded people in the diaspora and African countries would organize a befitting funeral for Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of the Republic of Ghana and doyen of of Pan Africanism movement in the world , ‘’ Nana Yaa Jantuah further explained.
The CPP Stalwart revealed that, the funeral event will take place in November 2002 adding that ‘’ in no time, the CPP will bring the timetable of activities that will culminate in the actual funeral and will also inaugurate a funeral committee.’’

Meanwhile, the General Secretary used the occasion to demand the release of the party’s properties that were seized from Dr. Kwame Nkrumah after his overthrown.
‘’ We want to reiterate our request for the return of assets of the CPP as the move to deepen comradeship and promote reparation. Your Excellency ( addressing President Akuffo Addo), it will be worthwhile to return to us the information Ministry building and the Ghana National fire Services headquarters, among many others, Nana Yaa Jantuah pointed out tothe President of Ghana.
Dr Kwame Nkrumah formed the Convention Peoples in 1949 where he ruled for six as the first President of Ghana. His government was overthrown in 1966 whiles he was away from country.
Dr. Kwame Nkrumah lived the rest of his life in Guinea where he was made a co-President of that country and later died in Romania.
