South African mining company, Anglo American has launched the country’s first Net-Zero carbon haulage truck.
South African mining authorities say the hydrogen-powered truck is the world’s biggest haulage machine in the mining industry.
Angelo American has set a target of achieving net- zero carbon by the year 2040.
Management of the mining company disclosed the trucks would eliminate 80 percent of the company’s carbon emissions.

President Cyril Ramaphosa in his inaugural speech described the green-hydrogen truck as a “giant prospect” for the country’s hydrogen economy.
Angelo American mining launched the trucks at the Mogalakwena platinum mine in Limpopo.
According to the mining giant, the truck can load up to 310 tons of ore at once.
The truck uses hydrogen and oxygen components of water that is powered by solar battery.
President Ramaphosa said the conversion of diesel powered truck into hydrogen-powered one sets the pace for clean energy for the mining industry.
He stressed the need to protect the environment in any way possible.
Mr Ramaphosa expressed hope that the new haulage technology would be adopted in other industrial sectors in the country.
