Workers’ union in South Africa has threatened to embark on industrial action on Wednesday if authorities fail to address their salary concerns.
Workers of ArcelorMittal issued the threat since all salary negotiations ith management of the metal company have failed.
The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) announced the possible industrial action on Monday in accordance with South African labour regulations.
The metal workers’ union threatened to strike at the ArcelorMittal plant located in Johannesburg’s industrial city of Vanderbijlpark.

Workers have given management of ArcelorMittal South Africa Limited 48 hours within which to address their salary concerns, counting from Monday.
Leadership of the labour union says decision comes after talks with management on salary negotiations failed.
Authorities of ArcelorMittal South Africa were not available to respond to the threats by workers at the time the statement was issued.
Members of NUMSA are demanding 10% housing allowance and 80% medical aid across-board among other demands.
Meanwhile, management of ArcelorMittal, Africa’s leading steel manufacturer is offering 5% of the sought-after allowance with unspecified salary offer.
Workers have since turned down the offer hence decision to embark on industrial action.
Agitation between management of ArcelorMittal and workers has been a concern to labour leaders in the country.
