Stakeholders of Ghana Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)yesterday organized an inter-schools handwashing completion for children in selected schools in the Kumasi Metropolis.
The WASH school competition forms part of sector activity lined up ahead of the 2022 Global Handwashing Day celebration.
The handwashing competition for schools was held at the KO Methodist Basic Schools in Ash Town near Kumasi Kejetia, the chosen venue for this year’s Global Handwashing event in Ghana.
WASH management said the competition aimed at sensitizing school children, teachers and education workers in the selected schools on the importance of handwashing for healthy and dignified human living.

Participating groups in the competition displayed skills in Tippy-taps installation, drawing, colouring and beadmaking in their own chosen colours that demonstrate their understanding of handwashing and hygiene.
Extension Services Coordinator of Community Water and Sanitation Agency, Mrs. Theodora Adomako-Adjei led representatives of the stakeholder organizations to demonstrate and guide the children on proper ways of washing one’s hands.
“We always need to wash our hands properly with soap under clean running water to enjoy healthy and dignified living,” Mrs. Adomako-Adjei told the school children.
Children who answered oral questions correctly won handwashing Sato-taps to be used in their various homes and school.
Participating schools included KO Primary A and B, St. Louis Junior High, Afia Kobi Basic School, among others.
