A US based energy solutions provider with operations in Africa, Genser Energy is supporting the 2023 edition of Ghana’s annual national tree planting initiative dubbed Green Ghana with approximately 70,000 trees.
The first phase of the tree planting project is targeted to impact some 54 communities along a 110 km stretch of energy Pipeline Right of Way (ROW) from Gyegyetreso in the Amansie South District to Ahomaso in the Oforikrom Municipality.
Management of Genser Energy said the project forms part of the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship and contribution to the country’s Green Ghana Program.
The “Genser Goes Green: Powering the Future with Trees.” as the project is referred to by management of the company has an ambition of planting one million (1000,000) trees on all the company’s projects sites and acquired lands across the country within the next five years.
The company-wide Pipeline Right of Way (ROW) initiative requires each staff member of the multi-national company to plant a tree at all Genser Energy operational sites and acquired lands.
According to management, Genser also has plans of implementing other afforestation programs in its operational communities as part of the company’s one million trees target.
“As part of our commitment to environmental stewardship, Genser Energy aims to plant 70,000 trees along the 110 km Pipeline Right of Way (ROW) in the Ashanti Region.
This initiative is our contribution to this year’s Green Ghana Program and is named “Genser Goes Green: Powering the Future with Trees.”
We have set an ambitious target of planting one million trees across all our projects within the next five years. This company-wide initiative requires each staff member to plant a tree at all Genser Energy operational sites and acquired lands.
In addition to the Pipeline ROW, we will implement various afforestation programs in our operational sites to contribute to our one million tree target programs,” VP External Communications, Anna Engstrom Klapper told journalists.
Ms. Anna Klapper said Genser Energy’s decision to plant trees on project sites was informed by the company’s commitment to national and international principles that safeguard the environment in line with its environmental policies.
She said the company fully engages with stakeholders including farming communities and all government agencies such as the forestry commission, the EPA and relevant international consultants to ensure environmental protection compliance across the communities where they operate.
She stressed that Genser Energy is dedicated to minimizing its negative environmental impact and promotes sustainability through a comprehensive sustainability plan and strategy that creates long-term economic opportunities for project-affected communities while reducing risks.
