Leadership from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) will on Sunday 12 December meet in Abuja, Nigerian to reopen discusion on Eco, a common currency to be used among member states.
The currency which has remained on the bloc’s drawing board since 2003 has been postponed four times, with the last in 2020.
The leaders will also look at rising terrorism and extremism threats in the region and make decision on Mali and Guinea.

The military juntas from Mali and Guinea were individually Sanctioned by the regional bloc following a coup in their respective countries leading to arrest and detention of famous Alpha Conde of Guinea.
Though, Alpha Conde has been released but still remains under a strict monitoring while living in his wife house
It is not clear if ECOWAS would extend its sanctions in Guinea and Mali during their meeting, as Malian authorities have failed to meet ECOWAS deadline to organize fresh elections by February, 2022.
However, the civilian and military authorities are trying to meet the expectations of ECOWAS.
Ahead of the summit of heads of state, scheduled for Sunday, the Council of Ministers also met this Friday in Abuja to address some of these issues.
